Now that the trailer is here it’s time for us to give you our Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer reaction.
My initial reaction is that this looks really good. However, a deeper Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer reaction is needed. I know that a lot of us Star Wars fans have been worried about this movie, but I really think that it looks like it will be a good film.
Like most have already said, I don’t foresee this actually being better than Rogue One or any of the saga films. But, it doesn’t have to be. It just has to be good at what it’s aiming to do, which is fleshing out Han Solo’s story a little better.
There’s a lot to like here. From shots of Han and Chewie together to shots of Donald Glover as Lando, we have a lot of nostalgia built into this movie. We even have what looks to be a “villain” in the movie. About halfway through the trailer, we see Han lining up for a duel with a masked figure.
Whether that is to be the villain of the film or it is just someone that Han seems to upset (no surprise) we will have to wait for May to see. Regardless, the character looks very Star Wars like and will hopefully have some depth in the film.
I also liked the kind of brand new feel that the falcon had in the trailer. It looked pristine and clean; maybe this is a byproduct of Lando owning it. It was also cool to see the main characters together in the Falcon escaping the empire and it’s a little intriguing as the Falcon eventually becomes a key cog in the Rebel Alliance’s fight against the Empire.
Not only do we get him escaping the empire, but they manage to throw in some classic Han Solo cockiness in there as well. That was good to see, I hope there is more of that in there but not too much.
I did also enjoy the inclusion of a character who has been with him from what seems like the beginning. Emilia Clarke as Qi’Ra is a character that you see in many different scenes with Han and she even tells him at one point that she’s the only one who knows who he really is. This brings intrigue and hopefully they don’t flirt some kind of romantic fling between the two as that will really upset people.
There were a lot of things to like about the trailer, but I will keep the rest for later for brevity’s sake.
Upon watching the trailer, the only thing that I can say that I didn’t care for is that it is slightly annoying is that Alden Ehrenreich really sounds nothing like Harrison Ford. I understand that nobody is going to pull it off 100%, but it just seems like they could have tried to hit the actor a little better in terms of look, feel, and sound.
Trusting that Alden can sell the Han Solo character based on the look and feel without trying to be Harrison Ford will be hard. I really want this movie to be good and I would really like this to unite Star Wars fans after what seems to be a real polarizing movie in The Last Jedi.
Unlike our friends at Dork Side of the Force – at first, the music seemed really weird for a Star Wars movie. I initially didn’t like it all, but after watching the trailer a few more times, I am starting to like it a little more. This is the reason that I am indifferent to it right now.
I actually really liked the music to Rogue One even though some did not care for it. I thought what Michael Giacchino did was different and fit the movie well. It makes sense for them to bring back and utilize the mastermind in John Williams though. Star Wars just isn’t Star Wars without John Williams music behind it.
I have been saying that I think this movie will surprise us and I am going to stick to that. They have done quite a bit to get our attention here and I think we are going to like it more than we thought we would. By the time this hits theaters, I will have watched my LJ Blu-Ray a hundred times and it will be welcome to have something new to see.
