New Comic Wednesday: Jared’s Picks for November 1st

A new era for Cap begins, Black Bolt is free, and you need to start reading Lazarus on this edition of New Comic Wednesday.

Black Bolt #7

Written by Saladin Ahmed

Art by Frazer Irving

This has been one of the most surprising comics this year. I never expected a Black Bolt solo book to be this good but it really is. Ahmed understands Black Bolt extremely well so the inner monologue works great but its the supporting cast that really shines. Because Black Bolt can’t talk other characters have to bounce off of him and Absorbing Man became an amazing character from this method. Frazer Irving is a very talented artist and one of the reasons this comic is good. The way he draws faces really allows for a variety of expressions and is consistently beautiful. If the Inhumans TV show has disappointed you this is the book for you.

Captain America #695

Written by Mark Waid

Art by Chris Samnee

Mark Waid and Chris Samnee are one of the greatest creative teams in comic history. Known for their acclaimed runs on Daredevil and Black Widow they are bringing their magic over to Captain America. They know the characters they work on so well that I have no doubt this run will be magical and Cap needs it. After everyone got upset after Secret Empire, Cap needs a book filled with hope and inspiration and there is no better team to handle it than Waid and Samnee.

Lazarus X+66 #4

Written by Greg Rucka

Art by Alitha Martinez

Are you reading Lazarus… cause you should be! A friend of mine turned me on to this title and I couldn’t be more thankful because it’s amazing. It’s a very Game of Thrones type book with warring families struggling for power but also has a lot of sci-fi in it as well. The characters are so well defined from the protagonist Forever to side characters such as Joacquim. Normally art would be handled by Michael Lark but he is taking a quick break so Rucka has decided to do a spin-off series focusing on a supporting character each issue. If you want to get a taste of the Lazarus world please pick this book up you won’t be disappointed.
