Today is the day that many comic fans simply cannot wait for. It is new comic Wednesday and today I will tell you which books are good picks.
It is New Comic Wednesday indeed and with there being so much to choose from, it wasn’t easy to narrow this list to where it is. However, these are the best ones I came across.
Action Comics #975
Written by Dan Jurgens
Art by Doug Mahnke and Javier Mendoza
Backup by Paul Dini and Ian Churchill
One of DC biggest mysteries at the moment is what exactly is this new Clark Kent. This story started in Superman #18 and is continuing in Superman #19 and Action Comics #976.
This story promises to reveal how and why there is a second Clark and will put the Kent family through the ringer as Clark’s son Jon has been kidnapped by the mysterious Mr. Oz. Dan Jurgens and Doug Mahnke have been very consistent throughout this run on Action Comics and with the addition of legendary writer Paul Dini for the backup story, this promises to be a great issue.
With the release of Logan everyone is talking about Laura Kinney, luckily she has her own book that is at the moment my favorite title at Marvel. This book has an amazing supporting cast, great emotion, and some laugh out loud moments.
This issue ends the current arc of Enemy of the State II where Laura comes face to face with her Handler Kimura. If you enjoyed Laura in Logan this is a must read book for you and with rising star Tom Taylor writing this title for the long run, it is only going to get better.
Since Tynion took over this title it has been one of if not the most consistent titles at DC. This issue will see Batman and his team take on the League of Shadows and hopefully see an encounter between the team and Lady Shiva.
After the first two arcs followed other members of the team we are finally getting a focus on Cassandra Cain a character who I feel has been underused in this title and seeing how she interacts with Lady Shiva should be a highlight of this arc.
The finale in a story that will have a tremendous impact on the Marvel Universe. The X-Men are fighting for their lives and with the help of the NuHumans they might be able to destroy the Terrigen Cloud and stabilize the Mutant population but with the rescue of Black Bolt, Karnak, and Queen Medusa they will have their most difficult battle yet.
This issue will dramatically affect both the Inhumans and X-Men and lead into the launch of Royals and ResurreXion two of Marvel’s upcoming events and titles.
Justice League of America #2
Written by Steve Orlando
Art by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado
This is the Justice League title we need right now. With the main Justice League title not being up the standards normally set by the Justice League this is such a breath of fresh air.
The cast is so diverse and the plot of having these very different characters learning how to become a team should appeal to many fans of classic Justice League. Steve Orlando is one of comics most promising new writers and with comic veterans Ivan Reis and Joe Prado this is going to become a flagship title for DC in the near future.
I hope that you enjoyed my picks for New Comic Wednesday. If you have missed out on any of my reviews for this week’s comic tv shows, check them out here.
