New Comic Wednesday: Jared’s Picks for January 10th

Scott and Barda begin their rebellion, Jean Grey returns, and Hawkeye returns to the Wasteland on this edition of New Comic Wednesday.

Mister Miracle #6

Written by Tom King

Art by Mitch Gerads

Mister Miracle is the best comic being published right now. There isn’t another book that makes you feel the way this book does. It’s graphic, it’s emotional, and it’s beautiful all at the same time. Tom King understands Scott and Barda so well and has turned Orion into one of the scariest villains of the year. Every single issue is different both in writing and in the art. Mitch Gerads deserves all the credit in the world for this title because it is a gorgeous unique beast. If you are not reading Mister Miracle you need to because it affects you unlike any book being published.

Old Man Hawkeye #1

Written by Ethan Sacks

Art by Marco Checchetto

Old Man Logan was one of the best books in the last 10 years and the Hawkeye in that series was a major reason why. This version of Hawkeye was a major part of that story and I’m excited to learn more about him. Some major things I want from this book is more of the Wasteland versions of classic Marvel characters, the creation of the rebellion, and how Hawkeye became blind. I’m not familiar with this writer but Marco Checchetto has done some great work on a variety of Star Wars titles. If you were a fan of Old Man Logan give this title a shot.

Phoenix Resurrection #3

Written by Matthew Rosenberg

Art by Joe Bennett

If you are an X-Men fan then you need to be reading this title. It has great throwbacks to previous X-Men stories while setting up a great looking title in X-Men: Red. Now that we have gotten a larger look at Jean’s new life I’m very curious where it’s going. Magneto has also entered the fray and I love anything Magneto does. Rosenberg has been a solid writer and I’ve enjoyed his work on Kingpin and Punisher. Bennett is a great artist and I’m excited to see his rendition of the X-Men. This title will have a lot of repercussions on the X-Men world so pick it up now.
