Batwoman puts her team into action, Aphra takes a rebel hostage, and Jessica Jones says goodbye to her creators on this edition of New Comic Wednesday.
Detective Comics #977
Written by James Tynion IV
Art by Javi Fernandez
The last issue set up the new status quo of Batman’s team and Batwoman’s team and I’m hoping it comes to a head in this issue. Both teams have clear reasons for what they are doing and the conflict between them is very interesting. This issue is also going to have a heavy focus on Ulysses Armstrong and Tim Drake. I’m really hoping we get an extended look at what Cassandra is doing as her plot is by far the most interesting right now. Tynion is always solid but seeing Fernandez on this title is going to be a treat after his great work on Nightwing.
Doctor Aphra #18
Written by Kieron Gillen
Art by Emilio Laiso
Aphra has become one of my favorite Star Wars characters and it’s all thanks to this fantastic title! I’m already super into this new arc especially with Triple Zero, the new members of Aphra’s crew, and the inclusion of Tolvan but this issue is involving another of my favorite characters…General Hera Syndulla. Hera is such a fantastic character and she is going to fit perfectly into this title and the banter between Hera and Aphra is going to be fantastic. Gillen and Laiso have done great work on this title and there’s no reason why that won’t continue with this issue.
Jessica Jones #18
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Art by Michael Gaydos
Jessica Jones just had one of its best arcs in a while but unfortunately, it’s time to say goodbye to this creative team. Bendis and Gaydos are two incredible creators and deserve all of the credit in the world for the amazing work they have done with Jessica. This issue is going to be a tribute to Jessica’s entire history with the entire issue painted like the covers. If you are any way shape or form a fan of Jessica Jones pick up this issue and say goodbye.
