New Comic Wednesday: Jared’s Picks for February 7th

Swamp Thing gets into the holiday spirit, The Hawkeyes take on a team, and Jean Grey returns to the X-Men on this edition of New Comic Wednesday.

Hawkeye #15

Writer: Kelly Thompson

Artist: Leonardo Romero

I love Kate Bishop on her own but she’s at her best when she’s paired with Clint Barton. These two form one of my favorite duos in comics and this arc is proving that in spades. This has been my favorite arc from this volume yet and with both Hawkeyes now fighting Madame Masque and Eden I’m expecting another great issue. Romero does a great job on this book and makes it feel like the classic David Aja Hawkeye. This book is, unfortunately, coming to an end, so go out and show Marvel that we want more Hawkeye!

Swamp Thing Winter Special #1

Writer: Tom King

Artist: Jason Fabok

This book is going to be an emotional experience now that Len Wein has passed away. Some of his final work is included in this special issue of Swamp Thing. Swamp Thing is a character I’ve always wanted to know more about so I’m hoping this is a good introduction to his character. What can be said about Tom King and Jason Fabok that hasn’t been said already? They are two of the best and most influential creators in current comics and if they are on this title you know it’s going to be great.

X-Men Red #1

Writer: Tom Taylor

Artist: Mahmud Asrar

Jean Grey is back and is leading an all-new team of X-Men! I don’t know anything about the plot of this book but the main attraction for me is the roster. Nightcrawler, Wolverine, and Honey Badger are three of my favorite X-Men and with a character like Namor who bleeds conflict, I’m excited about these interactions. There are also two new characters who I know nothing about. Tom Taylor is one of the most underrated writers in comics. I have always been impressed with his work and think that is run on Injustice is incredible. I don’t know much about this artist but from his preview posts on Twitter, I’m very excited to see what he does.
