Batwoman goes on trial, Mera gets her own series, and the Terrifics begin their long-awaited title on this edition of New Comic Wednesday.

Detective Comics 975

Detective Comics has been one of the most consistent of the DC titles since Rebirth began. Even with its consistency Detective hasn’t reached the height of its first arc. This latest arc was a step in the right direction and now it’s looking like we are getting a civil war between Batman/Red Robin and Batwoman/Azrael/Batwing. The driving force of this book has always been the character relationships and with everyone choosing sides this has the potential to be on par with the first arc.

Mera Queen of Atlantis 1

Written by Dan Abnett

Art by Lan Medina

Aquaman is one of my favorite comic characters of all time and a major reason why is because of his relationship with Mera. Reading Aquaman introduced me to Mera and now I love her as much as I love him. She can more than hold her own series and I’m so happy it’s finally happening! This comic spins out of the latest arc of Aquaman where Mera is now Queen of Atlantis and this will be about her preparing for her new position.

What has me most interested is how Ocean Master comes into play because we haven’t seen him in awhile. Dan Abnett has a great handle on Mera so I know he’ll do her justice and Lan Medina is a very accomplished artist from his work on Fables and Punisher MAX. This is a title that’s going to explore a badass female character being groomed for leadership, what more do I need to say other than buy it.

Terrifics 1

Written by Jeff Lemire

Art by Ivan Reis

Out of all the titles coming out of Metal, this is the one that has me most excited. A roster of Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho, and Plastic Man brings back old memories from the Outsiders and the new character of Phantom Girl has me very interested. Also, is it just me or is this a perfect spot for Martian Manhunter (cough DC use him more!).

Jeff Lemire is one of the busiest and most successful writers in comics with fantastic work on Animal Man, Green Arrow, Moon Knight, and Old Man Logan so I know he will deliver a great story. Ivan Reis, on the other hand, is one of the most exclusive artists in the bis with him rarely doing more than one book at a time and this seems like a perfect title for his talents. Of the many titles spinning out of Metal, this is the one to watch.
