Avengers Infinity War Expectations, Preview, and Rumors

Avengers Infinity War Expectations, Preview, and Rumors

As we get closer and closer to the release, the rumors are getting heavier and heavier. So, with that said, here are our Avengers: Infinity War Expectations.

The rumors and theories for Infinity War are flying. We’re sitting at less than one week until this movie officially hits theatres. I can’t even believe we are this close. However, as we are close, I wanted to go over some Infinity war expectations for the film as well as cover some theories that I am seeing out there.

Hawkeye Will be Taking Down Thanos

One of the craziest things I saw out there this week was where Robert Downey Jr. made claims that Hawkeye was the only one to take down Thanos. Downey said this at the Red Carpet event in Singapore, “Here’s my guess – because I haven’t read the script. Because Jeremy Renner is not in the poster, I think he’s the only one that can beat Thanos! I think it’s Hawkeye! No, I think it’s Jeremy: only Jeremy can defeat him.”

Now, this was said in jest as Renner’s Hawkeye has been absent from all promotional material for the film. So, Downey is just toying with fans here. Hawkeye (probably the least effective Avenger) is not going to be the one taking down Thanos and I don’t have to be the one to tell you that.

Major Character Dying

According to the folks of ScreenGeek, we can expect that there will be a major character dying within the opening moments of the film. They also go as far to theorize that the major character death will be Loki. In Ragnarok, we are left with Loki and Thor winding up on Thanos’ ship and in the trailer for Infinity War, we see Thor meet up with the Guardians of the Galaxy without Loki. So, theoretically, it makes perfect sense.

It also makes sense because in the trailer we also see Loki handing Thanos the Tesseract with a worrisome look on his face. So, this is likely not something he is doing willingly to appease the Mad Titan. As fans have probably enjoyed the redemption of Loki, it was only a matter of time that he be killed off and at least it’s him and not a more preferred character.

However, as ScreenRant smartly points out, there aren’t likely to be any really major characters dying (Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, etc.) as most of these actors are signed on to perform in one more film. Screenwriter Stephen McFeely has also mentioned to ScreenRant that there will be a terrible price to pay for each of the four Infinity Stones that Thanos will acquire.

So, really it could just depend on your definition of “Major Character”. There will be some character deaths in this movie, whether or not they are major characters, we will just have to wait and see.

New Unconfirmed Characters

There are a lot of speculations about which new characters that could be added to the Avengers group that we don’t know about yet. One of those characters to be all but denied by Joe Russo is Silver Surfer. Silver Surfer has had his bouts with Thanos in the comics, so it makes sense that fans are drawing conclusions on Silver Surfer being included in Infinity War.

However, as most know the Disney/Fox acquisition is not finalized. So, that makes the inclusion of a Fox-owned Marvel character next to impossible. While it would be absolutely neat to see an awesome character like Silver Surfer properly done by the MCU writers/directors it simply isn’t likely to happen.

Another character that I hadn’t thought about yet is Nova. This was an idea that I saw on Twitter from Zach Leslie.

This is perfectly reasonable as Nova is a member of the Nova Corps. This is the group of individuals who were left to defend the Power Stone at the end of the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. Back in November, Comicbook.com looked into the plausibility of the theory and figured that it makes sense to then connect him to the Captain Marvel storyline.

Captain Marvel

There are many rumors out there about Captain Marvel’s involvement in this film. Gamesradar talks about the confusion of Captain Marvel’s role in the movie here and mentions that we had confirmation last summer that she wasn’t in the film. However, that hasn’t stopped the rumors. As comicbook.com says, we can’t seem to get a read on whether or not she’s actually in the movie.

One Marvel fan noticed that she might have made a subtle appearance in the trailer and there’s no denying that it looks like her.

Zach Leslie (a great writer at Armchair All-Americans in his in own right) points out that he believes she will be the focus of the unavoidable post-credits scene.

This is one of the things that I will be watching for in the movie. Will they include her or won’t they? I am cautiously going to say that she won’t. Unless she plays one of the most crucial roles and they don’t want to ruin it for fans, there’s no reason for the Russo brothers to deny her role if she’s in the film.

Best Marvel Movie Ever

Now I say this without having seen Black Panther yet (life with a toddler and working every weekend makes seeing movies hard). This will be the best of any of the Marvel movies we have seen or will see. It will top Civil War, Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, and even the original Iron Man movies.

I have a feeling this will absolutely not just be a record-breaking movie but a record-crushing movie. Maybe it will even win some awards from the movie judging crowd (not that it matters). I am preparing for it to be an emotional one, hopefully, I will keep the tears in (not likely) if Cap gets the ax.

Regardless, I am super excited for this movie. I and some of the other members of STL Hat Trick will be taking the movie in on Thursday night and I cannot wait.
